Greetings

"Garden of Beginnings" facing Medical Street
"Flower Garden Rainbow" facing the pediatric outpatient department

Tsukuba Medical Center, Public Interest Foundation Representative Director Yasuo Shima

Thank you for your support!

The Spinning Garden Renovation Project has been calling for donations over a nine-month period from June 2024 to March 6 to cover the costs of renovating the Spinning Garden, which has deteriorated over time.
Many people responded to this call, and we received donations exceeding our goal of 500 million yen. We are truly grateful for this, as it is entirely due to the tremendous support of our patients, their families, and the local community, as well as the cooperation of our organization's staff.

In the future, Tsukuba Medical Center (TMC) and the NPO Tsukuba Urban Gardening (TUG) will work together to draw up a renovation plan for the Spinning Garden, and will be developing the garden's benches, pergolas (latticed garden shelves), and flower beds.
In addition to renovating the Spinning Garden, we would also like to use this donation to develop the Beginning Garden facing the hospital's Medical Street, and Rainbow Flower Garden facing the pediatric outpatient department.
Please check this page, note, social media, etc. for updates on the progress of the renovations.

We hope that "Tsumigi Garden" will continue to be a place of comfort for patients who use the hospital, as well as their families and the local community."A place of peace," "a place of rest"Our company will do our utmost to ensure this happens.

Finally, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who donated.
I'm really thankful to you.

*Any surplus from the renovation costs will also be used to cover the maintenance and upkeep of our organization's green environment in the future.

Our organization participates in the "Adopt a Road" initiative run by Tsukuba City.

Our organization's "Tsumigi-no-Niwa" has been recognized by Tsukuba City as an active group in the "Adopt-a-Road" program (a foster parent system for beautifying road environments), and has been entrusted with environmental beautification and maintenance of the "Tsumigi-no-Niwa" area.

*What is Adapt-A-Load?
Becoming the "foster parent" of roads managed by Tsukuba CityThis is a program in which roads are viewed as "adopted children" and cared for with love (cleaning, weeding, etc.) as if they were our own children.

Renovation plan for the spinning garden

There are six two-tiered flower beds called "three-dimensional flower beds" and 2 single-tiered flower beds. The flower beds are replanted twice a year in cooperation with the NPO Tsukuba Urban Gardening (TUG) and its staff. In addition to the costs of flower seedlings and fertilizer, regular maintenance of the flower beds (weeding, etc.) is also outsourced, so there are costs for that as well.

I buy flower seedlings regularly and replant them.

Although we have been carrying out ongoing maintenance, there are many plants and tall trees that have grown so large that the outer edges of the flower beds can no longer be seen.
We will carry out maintenance of the entire spinning garden, focusing on plants that have grown beyond the flower beds (such as thyme) and the lawn, as well as pruning large trees (such as maiden apple trees and common carrot trees).

We will rebuild benches whose seats have corroded and cracked. We will restore dilapidated benches so that they are safe to sit on and reconstruct them into places of relaxation.

In early summer, star jasmine blooms on this pergola, providing shade and the scent of jasmine.
Over the years, the star jasmine and ivy have grown so thick that it is no longer possible to see where the entrance or exit is.
Currently, it is difficult to rest inside the pergola, so we will prune the plants and improve the uneven interior surface to make it easier for people in wheelchairs to enter and exit the pergola.

The uneven surface inside the pergola
It's so covered up that you can't tell where the entrance is.

When watering the flower beds in front of the Tsukuba Medical Center Hospital and the Tsukuba General Health Check Center, the faucet is located at the edge, so the hose is extended and watered across the promenade. We are taking into consideration pedestrians and cyclists, but there are some places that are physically out of reach (we use a watering can, etc.), so we have difficulty watering.
To achieve this, we will install additional watering equipment so that all flower beds can be watered without crossing the promenade.

*This is the current renovation plan and may be subject to change without notice.
